Why Million Billion People is Crazy About Minecraft ?

Two words: infinite possibilities. Every time you start a new "game," you are dropped into a randomly-generated world that, if scaled, would be 8 times larger than the surface of Earth! That's a lot of space to explore--both above ground and deep below it. You begin with absolutely nothing. No tools, no shelter, not even a sense of direction. What you do and where you go from there is completely up to you (if you can survive the night). How cool is that??

The worlds of Minecraft are full of surprises. There are rivers and lakes, mountains and valleys, waterfalls and lava flows, forests and deserts, and so much more out there somewhere to be discovered and explored. Natural caves wait to be found and some of them lie beneath the surface just waiting for you to accidentally dig into them. Oh yeah, and most of them have things in them that will kill you. Try wandering into one without a torch to see how well this game triggers your fear response.

Don't want to wander around looking for caves? Fine. Start digging. Carve out your own vast underground network of tunnels and sub-subterranean shelters. Mine for resources while you're down there so you can build better tools and structures.

Want to create things? Minecraft has you covered. The things people can and have created with the basic building blocks in this game are simply astounding. People have created castles, large towns and cities, underground minecart systems that work like subways, even a replica of the Starship Enterprise! You're limited only by your imagination.

Tired of the "normal" world? No problem. With the right building blocks, you can create a portal into a hell-like region called The Nether full of its own terrifying surprises, resources, and...well, you'll just have to explore it.

One might think that infinite respawns when you die (yes, you can die) might make the game less challenging. Not true. When you die you respawn at the point where you first entered the new world. Anything you were carrying, such as those precious resources you spent hours digging up, will be dropped wherever you died. If you don't collect them soon enough, they will disappear and be lost forever. It sounds simple unless you were far from "home" and have no idea of which direction you wandered before falling down that deep hole, getting eaten by giant spiders, or drowned while trying to find your way out of that underwater cave you couldn't resist. The fear of dying is often real because you may have a lot to lose if it happens.

I can't quite explain why the game is just so darned addictive. So many times I've said "okay, I'll dig this tunnel just a little bit deeper" or "I want to build this structure up a little bit more" and then find myself still playing an hour later. One writer who reviewed the game said he leveled off the entire top of a mountain just because it was in the way. That's sort of par for the course.

Finally, Minecraft is developed by a small but great team that is heavily invested in continued development. As of this writing, the game is in beta with new features being added regularly by a staff that is plugged into the player community.
